Gary Tuttle
Growing up in Kansas, I spent much of my time exploring nature, swimming, fishing, and camping along the local creeks. There was nothing more fascinating than spending my time around the flowing streams bursting with life. After graduating high school, I attended UMKC, located in Kansas City, Missouri, followed by Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. I then joined the Navy as a dental officer in Okinawa, Japan, where I purchased my first camera.
Through the lens of my 35mm, I soon discovered that capturing a moment in time and nature was pure magic in so many ways. I remain enamored with both nature and photography. I’ve been most fortunate to have spent the last 36 years living, practicing dentistry, and capturing pictures of nature and aging structures along the banks of the Current and Jack’s Fork Rivers in Carter County, Missouri.
My true passion lies in macro-photography, taking extreme close-ups of small, ordinary objects, rendering them abstract, impressionistic, symbolic, and even mythological.
I suppose every artist has a goal when using a creative medium to present his or her passion to the world. With my photos, I attempt to touch the viewer’s soul through images of nature. My hope is to create an interaction between the imagination of the viewer and a natural object which lets the picture become whatever the viewer allows it to be, just as the clouds in the sky become the horse, the dragon, or even a face. I want my photos to renew our sense of kinship to the miracle of mother nature as our home.
